Michael Jordan is known for some tough love. The basketball enigma has earned respect and admiration from people worldwide. Known for his hard and fast commitment to the game, it shows up on the field and off it. So much so that the 23XI Racing owner is a phenom associated with many trademarks. One of them being his great taste in styling shoes.

The NBA legend has a knack for great kicks and loves it when everyone around him shares the same taste for them. MJ even owns the brand Jordan, which co-exists as a partner of sporting giant Nike. However, it is not all fun and games, like getting free stuff, when you are associated with him or is brand. In fact, having MJ as an owner has its perks as well as risks. Talking about risks, 23XI driver Tyler Reddick has taken one as he took his new kicks out for a spin during the rain ahead of Coca-Cola 600.

This year’s Coca-Cola 600 is facing a delay in the kick-off due to heavy rains at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Drivers and crews have been waiting on NASCAR to announce the resumption of processes. With the Memorial Day Weekend race postponed, drivers have decided to wait out the weather complication. 23XI driver Tyler Reddick meanwhile decides to tease the team owner MJ by exposing his shoes to some rain.

With a recent Instagram story from his official account, Reddick shares a video of him in the pits. Flaunting his new Nike Air Force 1s, the successive Xfinity champion writes, “Can I keep these new kicks clean today?”

Well, Reddick must be hoping the MJ doesn’t take this question too seriously since he does not take any disrespect to Nikes lightly. His love for the trademark product of Nike has made him question even legends like former teammate Scottie Pippen and Chauncey Billups. It seems being able to match Jordan’s shoe standards is a challenge in itself.

Michael Jordan and the lore of his love for shoes

The stories of Michael Jordan making his standard known to people, including teammates, are not unknown. Scottie Pippen is one of the best players to play in the NBA. His partner being none other than MJ meant they were destined for greatness and as they did, emerging as one of the best duos to ever exist in the history of the sport. Scottie Pippen recalls one such instance where he had to feel the wrath of the NBA great.

When asked about Jordan’s reaction when he was not wearing shoes up to his standards on a popular NBA talk show, The Jump, Pippen said,

“Oh yes I mean he wouldn’t sign an autograph for you. He wouldn’t even look at you. It definitely wasn’t coming in his house. So it was all about the Nike and yeah eventually about the brand Jordan, yeah.”

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups had something to add as well. Reminiscing an instance when he got to know about MJ’s obsession with shoes, he said, “Very first game playing against Michael Jordan in the Bulls. We had a guy named Greg Minor guarding him/ So they got in the little stuff.”

“MJ’s going to the free throw line and he looks at Greg and he says, ‘ I should make you take my shoes off.” I looked down , I didn’t even realize it. I looked down and he got the Jordans on. So I said, oh man it’s my first game ever. I said this is what I got to look forward to.”

Seeing this, it is safe to say that Tyler Reddick should keep some tabs on these stories or he might end up incurring the wrath of MJ pretty soon.
