The name Bubba Wallace has almost become synonymous with the term ‘bad luck’. After a series of bad pit stops, his pit crew is facing vehement comments from the entire NASCAR community and the fans on social media. Even though the number 23 driver is not blaming his team, everyone else thinks that it could have been his day at Richmond, considering the performance that he put up. He earned a whopping 41 points for his team, but getting a win is very crucial, especially with just 4 regular season races remaining till the 2023 playoffs.

When the same thing happens on a loop, it seldom counts as a mistake. It is probably time for the NBA legend and owner of 23XI Racing to step up and make amends to the crew so that Bubba does not suffer from another poor pit stop.

If one rewinds the time back to the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, one of the first incidents happened at Circuit of The Americas when, like Bubba, many other cars lost their wheels because of the first year of the Next-gen car. As a result, crew chief Bootie Barker was given a four-race suspension. The same thing happened again at Richmond and Talladega last year.

At Kansas, a pit road penalty took away Bubba’s potential chance of winning the race. During the Coca-Cola 600, a misunderstanding of the NASCAR damaged vehicle policy resulted in Bubba Wallace getting a DNF. A lion’s share of this problem could be the fact that the team does not have a direct watch over its pit crew and leases a crew from Joe Gibbs Racing.

Forward to last weekend’s race at Richmond, the 29-year-old driver faced another setback from his crew when they got stuck while changing the front right tire of Bubba’s Toyota Camry.

Amidst this unruliness, fans are tagging owner Michael Jordan and co-owner Denny Hamlin to change the crew for the team. Almost everyone is of the opinion that MJ himself has to intervene so that Bubba does not lose further chances, despite having great speed.

When it comes to winning, a lot depends on factors like new tires and refueled tanks. Hence, a good and timely pit stop is an absolute necessity. And Bubba Wallace has been very lucky in this aspect recently. When NASCAR on NBC released the official footage of the 23XI pit crew stuck while changing Wallace’s tire, the fans showered the team with their brutally honest takes.

Fans are not letting the team officials anywhere out of this. They are of the opinion that the fault lies in the management of the team. A NASCAR enthusiast commented, “It’s all in the details. Championship teams don’t mess up pit stops this often. #BubbaWallace”

Should Michael Jordan finally take matters into his own hands? With just 4 weeks till the round of 16, the urgency is overwhelming for 23XI Racing.
