Apart from high-octane, aggressive racing, if there is something that sets NASCAR apart is the on- and off-track drama and controversies. While the 2023 season has had a lot to offer already, a new bit of news has broken just before the Talladega Superspeedway weekend. Brad Keselowski and his team RFK Racing’s recent move has left the fans more than perplexed, and not many are able to wrap their head around it considering the dynamics.
In a season marred by penalties and suspensions, it’s not just the drivers who are under the spotlight but also the crew members. In fact, with the Next Gen cars, the crew members play a key role more than ever. However, RFK Racing has come up with a cunning move ahead of the race in Alabama.

It was just last year that Keselowski became a co-owner of RFK Racing. While continuing on his quest to add another Cup Series title to his list of accomplishments, the 39-year-old is heavily involved in the operations of his own team. Having said that, his team recently made a shocking move involving JTG Daugherty Racing that has confused the NASCAR community.
As is common knowledge, JTG Daughtery Racing is co-owned by the 5x NBA All-Star winner, Brad Daugherty. It is also well-known that the team has a technical alliance with Hendrick Motorsports. However, what many aren’t fully aware of is the team’s dynamics with Keselowski-owned RFK Racing.
It is a fact that JTG Daughtery Racing leases its pit crew from RFK Racing. This allows the latter to swap crew members at any point. Having been blessed with such an arrangement, RFK used it to bring JTG Daughtery Racing’s #47 crew excluding the fueler to its #17 crew. This sees Ricky Stenhouse Jr lose his Daytona 500-winning crew to Chris Buescher for the rest of the season.
RFK has swapped the pit crews, except for the fueler, for the Buescher and Stenhouse teams (47 gets crew from RFK) starting at Talladega. Would think RFK wants its two best-performing crews on the 6 and 17 so that appears to be reason for the swap between the 17 and 47.

Naturally, it is unfortunate for the #47 driver. Furthermore, it is the second time since the end of the last season that Stenhouse Jr will be adapting to a new lineup. Jakob Prall, Zach Yager, Dalton Leonard, and Nicholas Patterson will be heading to help Beuscher on the pit lane.
Obviously, it must be gutting for the Mississippi-born driver, and even the fans cannot digest what has happened.
Fans react as Ricky Stenhouse Jr is forced to swap four pit crew members with RFK Racing’s #17 car
It is not that swapping pit crew members is unusual in NASCAR. Hendrick Motorsports did it when they took Corey LaJoie’s pit crew members to help Alex Bowman’s car last year. However, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr, it is the fashion and the timing of the swapping that has raised eyebrows.
With the Daytona 500 victory this year, Stenhouse Jr really has a good chance of doing well this campaign. However, this move puts an unexpected dent in his and JTG Daughtery Racing’s planning for the remaining race. The fans couldn’t fathom what happened as they shared their opinion on social media. Some couldn’t understand the dynamics between the two teams.
“Why does it make sense that those 2 teams are aligned,” a fan mentioned on Twitter, while another said, “Is JTG aligned with RFK in some way.”
The simple answer to this is that JTG leases crew members from RFK Racing, nothing more. However, it was not just confusion but disappointment also on display from the fans.
First the drivers. Now the crews. What's next, swapping an owner? Brad for Brad?

Bob I don't know why they did that. The 47 is going to the playoffs and you would think RFK would put their best pit crew on that car so it has a better chance of winning the championship. Seems like they're cutting their nose off to spite their own faces.

This happens a lot. The best way to think of it for fans it like a minor leagues for pit crew. They get loaned out to teams but can be “called up” to the big teams.
