In the high-speed world of NASCAR, rivalries and controversies are nothing new. However, when the spotlight shifts from the racetrack to social media, things can quickly spiral out of control. The latest feud to capture attention involves members of the 23XI Racing team, co-owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
As the team has faced scrutiny throughout the season, an unexpected internal war has erupted, fueled by a Twitter exchange between two teammates.

The feud came to light when JR Houston, the Strategy and Systems Engineer at 23XI Racing tweeted a response to their ongoing conflict, attempting to change the narrative surrounding his teammate, Freddie, who is also a spotter in the 23XI Racing team.
In the Twitter exchange, Houston expressed his thoughts on working with Freddie, acknowledging that he genuinely enjoys their partnership every weekend.
He said, “I hope the audience doesn’t get it twisted. I genuinely enjoy working with Freddie my teammate and spotter on every weekend (he’s pretty good you know ). I’d like to think he feels the same. But man he can be a real pain in the (a**) sometimes”

By expressing his genuine enjoyment of working with Freddie, Houston tried to highlight the positive aspects of their partnership and bridge the gap between their differences.

Stewart Haas Racing Insider’s Tweet Sparks Outrage as Brett Griffin Joins the Conversation
The reason behind this controversy? The Chicago shootings, a tragic event that has shocked the nation. The incident sparked debates worldwide, and even the NASCAR community found itself divided. One of Tony Stewart’s employees, Joel Edmonds, who serves as Aric Almirola’s spotter, took to Twitter to express his opinion. In a questionable tweet, Edmonds wrote, “60 shot over the weekend in Chicago Boogity Boogity Boogity.” The tweet’s tone raised eyebrows, but it was the response from veteran spotter Brett Griffin that escalated the situation.
Griffin’s comment, “Do they arrest these people or let em just take a few days off and get back after it?” ignited a firestorm. Edmonds surprisingly replied, “depends on your political affiliation like NY city.” The controversial exchange drew swift backlash from fans and critics alike, who condemned their remarks while a few took to defend the pair.
Among those disappointed by the negative backlash was Freddie Kraft, Bubba Wallace’s spotter and a partner at Griffin’s Couch Racer Shop.

Expressing his discontent, Kraft took to Twitter, writing, “Some folks preach about acceptance and inclusivity. But then turn around and disparage my entire profession because they don’t agree with the opinions of a couple of guys within that profession. Seems pretty hypocritical to me.” Unfortunately, his statement triggered a heated argument with JR Houston.

Houston responded to Kraft, stating, “Out of a solid 36 people in your profession, a solid 3 to 4 have completely made a mockery of it. I’m surprised the other 32-33 have remained silent and just let it happen. It seems like nobody wants to ‘stir the pot’ to change the image given by the 3-4 loudest voices.” While Bubba Wallace’s spotter defended his right to freedom of speech, Houston presented his counterarguments leading to a long Twitter exchange that raised eyebrows amongst the motorsport community.
