The day Dale Earnhardt tragically passed away, the legend was egging on his son to go for the win. Dale Earnhardt situated himself behind his son’s car to block Sterling Marlin as Junior engaged in a fierce battle for the lead with Michael Waltrip. However, the tragedy had already befallen the track, before Dale Sr could witness the final outcome of the race.

Nevertheless, the need to revisit the tragic incident was to assert the fact that there have been enough instances in NASCAR history where father-son duos have raced against each other wherein the successor had to carry forward the legacy of their predecessor—a phenomenon that is unfolding in the form of Kyle Busch and his budding racer son Brexton Busch in the current times, echoing similar plans by many, including the NBA legend, LeBron James.

The thought of retirement troubles the minds of most athletes. It always comes down to the one last wish before they call it quits and hang up their suits. A case in point—LeBron James.

The NBA star, who is 38 years old had revealed to ESPN that he is ready to delay his retirement for the next two years until his 18-year-old elder son Bronny will be eligible for playing professionally in NBA. He admitted, “I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny.”

“Either in the same uniform or a matchup against him. But I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr and Jr thing. That would be ideal for sure,” James added.

Nevertheless, James also asserted the fact that it would be up to his son’s discretion whether he would continue his career in basketball. The LA Lakers player affirmed, “My son is going to take his journey. And whatever his journey, however his journey lays out, he’s going to do what’s best for him…So, just because that’s my aspiration or my goal, doesn’t mean it’s his. And I’m absolutely OK with that.”

Kyle Busch’s retirement plans: Not yet ready to cut the umbilical cord

The 2x Cup Series champion Kyle Busch seems to echo the same thought as the NBA legend. However, the only setback being that Busch’s son is ten years younger than Bronny James and is still trying to find his grip in the world of Karting. However, it seemed that Papa Busch has already charted out the future plans for himself and his son Brexton.

In an interview with Sirius XM Cloud, the RCR driver expressed, “ I would say in a perfect world, I kind of dreamed this up already. In a perfect world, I would retire from Cup racing when Brexton is 15 years old and I would go and run a year of Truck.”

Moreover, in his aspirations to race alongside his son, Busch aspired that he would be able to win the Truck championship, a title that has eluded him in his prolific driving career and is yet to be achieved by any driver in the history of NASCAR.

He also added, “So, I would do that, and when Brexton turns 16, him and I can split that truck […] So for two years, we split it, and then when he is 18 he takes it over, and then when he runs full time, and takes it over and hopefully wins a championship and then he moves on and then I am out… So, that would probably put me around, I guess, 49-50 years old,” Busch concluded.
