Apart from being the community’s weekly dose of entertainment, NASCAR’s top-tier division is undoubtedly the biggest revenue source for the organization. The word “great” might be an understatement when we describe the NBA legend, Michael Jordan. The North Carolina native over the years has built a solid reputation, a reputation synonymous with determination and true grit. While his NBA venture of rolling out a home-grown North Carolina team failed miserably, he has been a great inspiration for many in NASCAR.
Despite his rather disappointing NBA venture with Charlotte Hornets, a team that has now become the sport’s-only team to consistently not reach playoffs for 7 straight seasons, Jordan is happy to let go of the team. While Jordan’s venture failed on the court, his 2010 investment in the team has rewarded him with 2 Billion dollars in worth as of 2023. And the sale of the Hornets will probably go down as one of the biggest recent sales in NBA history.
Though his NBA venture went wrong, his NASCAR team, 23XI Racing, has established itself as a top team in a short span of 3 years. Bringing in major sponsors and key drivers to its camp, the proud Toyota team indeed had some memorable adventures on the track with road racing expert Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace as top drivers.
And now with the NASCAR nation headed to Atlanta for an exhilarating action following Grant Park 220’s grand success, MJ’s partner, Hamlin revealed how Jordan contributed to NASCAR’s $30 million Chicago success. He said, “Yeah, I mean if you look at kind of the key partners they had for that race, McDonald’s, blue cross, and those were all 23XI partners so they were obviously heavily invested in the success of it and I think they were happy.”

Ever since its inception in 2020, Jordan’s larger-than-life aura and his champion mindset together brought huge sponsorships for the Toyota camp such as Chicago Street race’s primary sponsor, McDonald’s, DoorDash, and many more. While the inaugural street race took the sport to newer heights becoming one of the most-watched NASCAR events on NBC in 6 years, Jordan’s contribution to NASCAR has been highly praised and lauded wholeheartedly by the community.
Hamlin puts out an intriguing “bracket challenge” for NASCAR, taking inspiration from the court
While NBA rolled out its in-season tournament on Saturday, veteran Denny Hamlin who has been an advocate of the shorter format pranced on to the season to urge NASCAR to adapt something similar on the track. Hamlin also has been a strong advocate for a shorter more engaging format of racing asked NASCAR publically, tweeting out his proposition.

Though Hamlin feels NASCAR can come up with its own version of the NBA’s in-season tournaments, the veteran is all in for a shorter 32-driver mid-season tournament, hoping that this brings more excitement and fandom to the tracks. Actually, Hamlin’s idea is indeed a splendid one because not only will it prompt more to tune in to NASCAR but bring out the best of drivers.
