23XI Racing had a tough time at the Richmond Speedway last weekend. With none of its drivers even making it to the top 15, the team also witnessed an embarrassing pit road incident that attracted a NASCAR penalty for safety violations. However, what caught the attention of the fans the most was the team’s co-owner, Michael Jordan. As someone who was there to cheer his team from the pit box, Jordan seemed clearly disappointed with the infractions at the raceway.

And let’s face it, why wouldn’t he be disappointed? While the 23XI drivers were struggling for speed on the track, a green flag pit stop made it all a bit worse.
While 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace was parked at the pit stop, the right tire of his car suddenly went loose. Hence, as soon as a non-pit crew member noticed it, he rushed toward the wall in order to catch hold of the tire before it rolled away. However, in the attempt, the crew member fell into the pit across the barrier without a helmet on.
This resulted in a pass-through penalty for Bubba Wallace, upsetting his team owners Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
Denny Hamlin on Michael Jordan witnessing the incidents from the pit box
During his conversation on Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin discussed Sunday’s events. Explaining how the Basketball legend Michael Jordan’s presence did not actually amount to any extra pressure, Hamlin said, “Of course, Michael’s in town, sitting on the box. There’s no extra pressure that Jordan sitting on your pit box. But we fumbled the ball there on pit road and especially during a green flag pit stop.”
Furthermore, Hamlin revealed how the series of events upset Bubba Wallace and him.
He shared, “You cannot make a mistake – especially a penalty mistake because you go laps down. So, they’ve rebounded but they were gonna run in the top ten. Again, Bubba needed that for his confidence, and then instead he finishes bad and probably is pissed off as I am right now.”
Denny Hamlin shares his Richmond ‘losers sheet’
While discussing the performances of drivers on Sunday, Denny Hamlin revealed his ‘Losers Sheet’ – a list where he discussed the drivers that did not perform to their full potential. Kicking the segment off by naming himself, Hamlin said that he wasn’t happy with his performance at Richmond. It was a pit lane speeding penalty that sent the Joe Gibbs Racing driver to the back of the pack.
Furthermore, Hamlin revealed that he feels like Team Penske driver Austin Cindric as well as Ryan Blaney and Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger could have performed better. Moreover, adding his team driver Tyler Reddick to the list, Hamlin said that after Reddick’s win at the Circuit of The Americas, a track like Richmond proved to be detrimental to his speed.
