It was a special day in the Stewart household. After all, it’s not every day that a racing legend such as Don Prudhomme comes in for a visit. ‘The Snake’ took time off from his busy schedule to play with Dominic James Stewart, a crossover that most motorsports fans did not anticipate. The 83-year-old is somewhat of a father figure for Leah Pruett, having walked her down the aisle on her wedding day when she tied the knot with Tony Stewart.

In what looks like a warm reunion, the NHRA legend is seen with Dominic James Stewart and Leah Pruett, with the trio spending some quality time with each other. Pruett also dropped a heartfelt confession on Instagram, which revealed the origins of her love story with Tony Stewart.

Prudhomme played cupid for Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett

Don Prudhomme is quite a legendary figure in the NHRA community. He began his career in the 1960’s and quickly established a reputation for himself as one of the top drag racers in the country, going on to win four National Hot Rod Association championships. His nickname, ‘The Snake’ was given to him by crew chief Joel Purcell, because of his quick starts at the beginning of the race and his swift movements on the racetrack. After retirement, the California native started Don Prudhomme Racing, featuring drivers such as Larry Dixon, Ron Capps, and Tommy Johnson Jr.

In a post uploaded on Instagram, Prudhomme is seen cradling Dominic James Stewart in his arms. Adding context to the images, Leah Pruett wrote, “Legend in the house 😌 Don “The Snake” Prudhomme stopped by to meet Dom for the first time last week. Don first introduced Tony and I over 5 years ago, so really, Dom wouldn’t be here without him.” It’s no secret that Prudhomme and Pruett have a father-daughter relationship, and in a way, the newborn is the legendary driver’s grandson.

Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett are considered a power couple in the motorsports world. The couple first met in 2019 through Don Prudhomme, who urged ‘Smoke’ to meet the professional drag racer. When they met, Stewart was engaged to model Penelope Jimenez while Pruett was married to NHRA crew chief Gary Pritchett for over five years. However, the duo didn’t get together until their previous relationships had ended, with the three-time Cup Series winner saying, “I canceled my engagement, Leah had gotten separated and was in the process of getting divorced.”

As revealed in a Dale Jr. Download podcast from 2023, Tony Stewart drove six hours from Alabama to Florida to meet Leah Pruett, and the duo had lunch at Gainesville before going to Daytona to watch bike races. Their relationship officially began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and they got engaged in March 2021 before getting married later that year. It’s been quite a journey for the couple, who welcomed their son in November 2024 on the same day as the NHRA finals.

Parenting is never easy, especially in the early days. It’s a lesson Leah Pruett is learning the hard way after giving birth to Dominic James Stewart in November 2024. The 36-year-old will not be competing in the 2025 NHRA season as she continues to focus on her family, with Tony Stewart taking her place in the racing series. Even though the motorsports community is eager to see her return to the racetrack, Pruett is keeping her priorities in check and embracing the newfound responsibilities that come with motherhood.

Revealing her plans for the year ahead, Pruett candidly said, “I wanted to make a message for those of you who do not know what my 2025 plans are, and I had announced them, which was in December, at Tony Stewart Racing’s 25th anniversary, with our partners and suppliers, and a lot of media was there. It has been another very difficult decision I made. This one’s all on me but basically, after I had Dom at the end of November, I soon realized how much I do not know about motherhood and that I need to learn.”

However, that doesn’t mean that the California native is completely stepping away from the motorsports world. Pruett will be in attendance at the upcoming Pro Superstar Shootout, where she will cheer for Tony Stewart from the sidelines. The drag racer is itching to witness some high-octane motorsports action, and encouraged others to do the same by saying, “Be sure to see if you can go to the Pro Superstar Shootout in Florida.”
