Earlier at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, there was a scary moment. Upon exiting the corner, Colton Herta had a snap of oversteer and slid into the wall. Then the accident got even more terrifying when his car went airborne and then landed on its roof, sliding all the way. Later on, it transpired that the IndyCar wreck was scarily similar to an earlier accident.

This time, the victim was the British driver, Dan Wheldon, and his crash happened during a race in 2003. Fortunately, both drivers were able to walk away unscathed, though the crash’s similarity was uncanny.

Herta’s accident occurred during the practice session for the Indy 500 while he was on his 43rd lap during the run.
The only difference between the two crashes was that Herta had the aeroscreen to protect him. Poor old Wheldon did not, so it was a miracle that both drivers walked away without a scratch. Now, Colton Herta will be hoping that his team is able to fix his car in time for the Indy 500 on Sunday.

Colton Herta was not the only IndyCar victim during the Indy 500 practice
Apart from Colton Herta, David Malukas also had his session abruptly cut short. While tailing Santino Ferrucci, he pulled out of his slipstream but bumped Ferrucci. Then, when he entered the corner, his tyre blew up and pitched him into the outside wall. Meanwhile, Ferrucci himself got hit with a penalty, forcing him to miss at least 20 minutes of practice.

The good news is that Herta got himself checked and released from the infield medical center. He even managed to pass the initial concussion test but is not completely out of the woods yet. This is because the Medical team has yet to analyze the data from the accident. Once they are satisfied with the data from the accelerometer reading, only then will they clear Herta to race again.
