Motorsports racing always comes with huge risks for the drivers. Despite safety being the priority, sometimes things don’t turn out as they are supposed to. We saw last Sunday in Talladega how Kyle Larson’s car was severely damaged. Thankfully, neither the #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver nor Ryan Preece, who T-boned him, suffered major injuries. However, the unpredictable nature of racing is a concern, especially for a father like Kyle Busch.

It is hardly a surprise how Rowdy has encouraged his son Brexton into racing. While the 7-year-old is doing an impressive job at a very young age, his safety concerns the senior Busch. Recently, the 2x NASCAR Cup Series champ explained the risky nature of the business by giving Chase Elliott’s example.

A responsible father will always be protective of his child, especially when they are young and growing. Busch is no different. While he pushes his son Brexton to grow into a formidable race car driver, he’s not putting it above his safety.

Recently, speaking ahead of the Wurth 400 race in Delaware, Busch spoke in detail about the safety concerns in the sport. He said, “Yeah, you know, safety first, right? That is always my biggest thing is to make sure my seats are right, and they are mounted right and are in the position that I want them in.” Further, he added how he ensures the steps he takes for Brexton’s safety.

Rowdy said, “The seats that we buy for Brexton are safe and secure and good seats. Depending on what vehicle we are in, we will go to the lengths of lightening the seats and go to a point of where we feel comfortable. But like his Junior Sprints stuff, we don’t touch that, and leave that alone as is from the manufacturer.”

However, Busch accepted that there is no control over natural occurrences. And if something is to happen, will happen. The 37-year-old explained how it recently occurred with Alex Bowman. He said, “It’s just going to happen. I haven’t seen the (Alex) Bowman crash, but grateful that he will be okay.”

Furthermore, he used Chase Elliott’s example of how things got out of hand at the Chili Bowl last year in January. Busch said, “I remember Chase (Elliott) at the Chili Bowl, last year or the year before, he had a violent flip as well. So, he was okay after that.

“It’s just the nature of running those cars a lot of times.  I stick to the Micro game, they are a little bit slower and shorter track. You hope that you end up okay, but there are injuries in that as well too.”

Without a doubt, Busch is right to worry both as a father and a racer. It is imperative that all motorsport governing bodies prioritize the safety of the drivers. While the Richard Childress Racing driver ensures his child’s safety, he also makes sure to keep Brexton motivated.

With the high standards Kyle Busch has set, pressure is always going to be there on young Brexton. Unfortunately, it was evident in his outing at the Bandolero Bandit races in February.

Brexton finished 15th and 16th in those races, which was a disappointing result for a talent like him. However, Kyle ensured he was not demotivated and sent out a positive message. To his son’s post on Instagram, Busch wrote, “Proud of u son.”

This act certainly meant more than the words used. It not only sends out the right message for Brexton but to all fathers helping their children grow into the sport. After all, family support matters the most in such scenarios.
