Chase Elliott has a secret hobby outside of racing
While the racetrack is undoubtedly the primary domain of NASCAR drivers, their lives outside the circuit are filled with equally captivating pursuits. For the skilled Hendrick Motorsports driver and 2020 Cup Series champion, his passion for aviation takes center stage. “Something to put your mind to away from racing, which I think is neat,” he believed (per HMS official website).
Embarking on an exciting journey in 2015, Chase successfully acquired his private pilot’s license, showcasing his dedication to mastering the skies as well as the track.
Initially, Elliott took to the skies in a Cessna 182, later upgrading to a more powerful Beechcraft Baron. Frequently, he pilots his Baron between races, primarily within the southeastern United States. However, Chase has yet to venture beyond the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, though he has flown to both Michigan International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
It’s important to note that Elliott isn’t the only NASCAR driver with a penchant for aviation. In fact, his father, Bill Elliott, shares the same passion since the 70s and his uncles are professional airline pilots. All these together prompted him to master the art of flying solo. Alongside the Elliotts, there have been several other notable NASCAR drivers like Matt Kenseth and Kyle Petty who also proudly own and operate aircraft as a hobby.
