The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville in the playoffs was one marred with controversy. The whole Sheldon Creed-Richard Childress debacle left a sour taste in the mouths of fans. But it was not just Childress who was subject to a lot of criticism. Austin Hill, the second RCR driver involved in the now infamous on-track incident, wasn’t cut any slack for his post-race comments either.

Sheldon Creed needed to win that race to guarantee his spot in the championship 4, and Austin Hill would have made it to Phoenix had the race ended without incident. However, on the last lap, Creed made a bold move past his teammate but couldn’t get the throttle down in time, out of the final corner. As a result, Hill slammed into the back of Creed’s car right at the end and neither driver was able to make it into the final 4.

After the race, Richard Childress publicly chastised Sheldon Creed, calling him one of the stupidest drivers he had worked with. The 78-year-old was not the only one involved in the public shaming of Sheldon Creed. Austin Hill, the man who could have been in the final four, was also not very appreciative of his teammate and did not hold back in the post-race interview.

“Didn’t feel like I was given a chance and then when we got shoved up the racetrack, I haven’t seen the replays getting the #3, but when he won at the racetrack, he just parked in the center of the corner, and I had no power coming off the four so I cannot wait for him to get out of RCR,” Hill had said at the time.

“I can’t wait to have Jesse Love as a teammate. Maybe he’ll work better with me. Just cannot wait for him to get over to Joe Gibbs Racing, and I don’t have to put up with that s**t no more,” the 29-year-old added.

Austin Hill’s frustration at the time is understandable. To him, Sheldon Creed did impede on his chance of making it through to the championship race in Phoenix, albeit unintentionally. But his words have not aged well as NASCAR fans seem to have developed a bit of disdain toward the 29-year-old. When asked who the most hated driver in the Xfinity Series was, they ripped Austin Hill to shreds on Reddit.

Austin Hill was never really a popular man in NASCAR but the whole incident with Sheldon Creed made things worse for him with fans. One fan highlighted that incident as the catalyst to him being not likable.

“Austin Hill for sure. Absolutely can’t stand the guy, couldn’t before the Creed ordeal, and really dislike him now after it,” they wrote.

“Haven’t really thought about it. Me personally, I find myself disliking Hill more and more,” commented another user.

Another user suggested that Austin Hill was the most hated race car driver in the Xfinity Series by far, while another made a rather amusing wordplay of his name.

“Right now Austin Hill and I can’t even think of a close second,” one fan wrote.

“Austin Hill is kind’ve an AHILL,” commented another.

One fan even compared him to Denny Hamlin, who is considered to be one of the most disliked drivers in the Cup Series and all of NASCAR today.

“Austin Hill. Denny Hamlin of the Xfinity series,” one user commented.

“Austin Hill doesn’t seem to be too popular,” quipped another.
