Bubba Wallace sat down to speak with a highly reputed magazine, and he expressed his feelings towards the engine sounds of the new generation of Formula One cars. He also compared them to the sound produced by the old V10 era of F1 cars.

During the interview, Wallace mentioned, “I didn’t like when F1 went to their motor now. I’ve gotten used to it now, but when they first did it, I was like, ‘This is not cool’.”

“Jimmie (Johnson) when he drove the car swap with Alonso, he was driving the old V10 and it sounded awesome. You just see so many people when an old nostalgic video gets posted and they go, “Oh man, I love this old sound. Bring it back.” People will latch onto that.”

Back in 2018, when Fernando Alonso was still a part of McLaren Racing, Jimmie Johnson had an opportunity to swap his NASCAR car with the two-time F1 champion and take out an F1 car for a spin himself. The car he drove was from a generation prior to the turbo hybrid era and had a V8 engine. Hence, it had a loud exhaust note.

Throughout the years, multiple people, including F1 drivers, have spoken about how much better the older cars sounded, compared to the current F1 cars.

Bubba Wallace mentioned he would like to try an F1 car around Australia

Wallace once admitted that in general, he would not prefer to drive open-wheel cars. However, he was open to the idea of driving a Formula 1 car around the Albert Park circuit in Australia.

During a podcast with Corey LaJoie, Wallace was asked if he had to drive one car of his choosing for the rest of his life, what would he choose?

The 23XI driver, initially said he’d go around Michigan in his current 23 car every week, but then also mentioned, “but I would love to do a swap with an F1 car and just go out there and make laps, just to see.”

LaJoie then asked where would he like to do that. Wallace responded, “The most laps that I’ve turned on an F1 game is probably Australia. So I’d like to do that.”

Another person on the podcast mentioned that they should call Daniel Ricciardo and, coincidently, LaJoie was wearing a Daniel Ricciardo T-shirt during the podcast taping.
