It is just a few more days before the green flags are waved in the air and the drivers rev up their engines on NASCAR tracks. While the Cup Series has already provided glimpses of what the upcoming season awaits, following in the footsteps is its minor rung in the Truck Series. However, amidst this whirlwind of changes in the drivers and their upgradation, it seems that G2G Racing, a Truck Series team, has caught up in a social media spat with a news media outlet, and threatened them with repercussions.
The team in question made its strides in the NASCAR world back in 2021 after it was purchased from Kyle Busch Motorsports. The team’s fiasco with the online sports media outlet seemed to have made the NASCAR fans livid, as they bashed the racing team for its own mistake.

With the off-season setting in, the organizations and the teams seized the opportunity to announce and reveal the car liveries, boasting their sponsorship partnerships and also the drivers’ lineups for the upcoming season. Following suit was the Truck Series team G2G Racing, which is still in its nascent stage but tried to provide a glimpse into the team’s preparations for the 2024 season, through social media posts. However, it seemed that the post backfired and led to a social media debacle with a media organization.
The team which is co-owned by Tim Viens and Bill Shea had fielded their #46 Toyota Tundra Truck for multiple races in the 2023 season. Following this the team teased the NASCAR fans with possible changes in their truck numbers for the 2024 season. On December 7, the team’s Twitter handle posted a cryptic message, “New Year. New Numbers. Coming Soon.”
However, things eventually escalated on the team’s Instagram page, where the team apparently posted the possible car number for the upcoming season that was supposed to be an announcement for later. Moreover, a sports media outlet that had spotted the post had published the article on their site. Owing to this, the racing team had pressurized the media outlet to take down the post from their site or would have to face repercussions for the publication of the article.
Following the hostile statement from the racing team, the media outlet posted their disappointment on how the whole incident transpired on their Twitter profile. The site stated that the employees of the site had simply fulfilled their role as journalists, by publishing the news that the racing team had posted on their social media. The media outlet had clearly stated that it was the racing team that was at fault and not the publishing house. However, the news organization as well as the racing team eventually deleted their posts from their Twitter accounts.

Nevertheless, a Twitter user tried to spill the beans on the whole fiasco, which eventually led to the deletion of the post by both organizations.
This is the outlet that got the threat from G2G. Not cool on any level and I hope someone from NASCAR takes note of this and they investigate it. Totally not acceptable of a professional race team. https://t.co/Gg8Wwa2iAa

One user wrote, “Report G2G to @NASCAR. Has to be some rule violation somewhere. I feel bad for certain drivers who have had to drive for them just to get seat time…”
While another tweeted, “I’m so sorry I hate that.”
Others also wrote, “Funny how it’s all over AFTER they themselves tweeted it and instead of being mad at them they may at you. You can’t make this up lol they won’t last long.”

One particular user of the platform hinted at the hypocrisy of the whole saga, writing, “So I guess @g2g_racing decided it was a great idea to put this up, announce the numbers then pull it and threaten a media outlet over their own post… What a joke.”

However, with the post taken down, a user left a comment, “Update: G2G decided to take down the post that I showed earlier. Still leaving up my posts because whether or not they think by taking it down it makes the threat go away, it really doesn’t.”
