The French Open 2020 was witness to a spectacular act of revenge. Iga Swiatek faced Simona Halep in the fourth round match at the Philippe Chatrier.
History reminded everyone of the humiliation Iga faced at the 2019 edition of the Roland Garros. The straight-set victory for Halep back in 2019 changed to a straight-set victory for Iga this season. Her close friend, Naomi Osaka, was ecstatic after this and tweeted her reaction.
The teenager from Poland was confident that this year’s match would not be one-sided like the previous year. Little did she realize that she was going to defeat the top seed. Eventually, she emerged victorious with a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Romanian.

Her victory brought forth admiration from all sides of the court. It is not easy to display such domination against one of the top performers in the circuit.
Impressed with her game, Naomi Osaka couldn’t abstain from admiring the youngster. Tweeting her reaction, she retweeted the video of her victory.
“What a star,” the tweet read.
Iga Swiatek was over the moon following her win. She was aware that her tactics went in vain last year as she let the pressure take over her game. Not repeating the same mistake twice, she sailed through the obstruction towards the quarter-finals.
“Right now I’m more experienced, I can handle the pressure. So I feel like I grown up to play a match like that and to win it. So everything went well. I did everything that my coach told me about tactics. So it was kind of like a perfect match for me,” she said.

One of the greatest voids at this year’s French Open has been the absence of Naomi Osaka. The three-time Grand Slam winner decided to skip this year’s French Open due to her injury. Prior to the French Open, the player was in the United States where she participated in the Western and Southern Open and the US Open 2020.
She reached the finals of both the events and was up against Victoria Azarenka on the two occasions. Pulling out of the Western and Southern Open due to slight discomfort in her legs, she settled for the runners up trophy. However, she refrained from doing so in the US Open 2020 finals. She went in, faced her opponent, and emerged as the Champion.
