Naomi Osaka saw her 14 match undefeated streak coming to an end in the semi-finals of the Brisbane Open.

Osaka lost to the second seed Karolina Pliskova 6-7 (10), 7-6 (3), 6-2 in 2 hours and 48 minutes. The match saw fierce baseline rallies with the players sharing 29 aces between them.

After the match, Naomi Osaka confessed that fatigue had finally caught up with her.

“In the third set, I was just lingering too much on the match point that I missed. And I played like so many three sets, my body was kind of like, why, like why are you doing this again? Yeah. That’s basically what happened.”

Osaka is justified in saying this as the Japanese survived three consecutive three-setters before her exciting contest with Pliskova. In fact, Osaka was on the verge of a finals berth when she was serving for the match at 7-6(10), 6-5.

However, the Czech roared back into the match by first breaking Osaka’s serve and forced a tiebreak.

The final set was a cakewalk for Pliskova as the fatigue finally got to Osaka. In fact, the Czech hit eight of her 15 aces in the last set.
