King Richard, a biographical drama film, which hit the theaters on 19th November, has received incredible reviews since its release. Based on a real-life story, the film centers on the journey of Richard Williams, the father of two of the greatest players Venus Williams and Serena Williams.
Just ten days since its release, the film has gained critical acclaim and many viewers have hailed it as the – best sports biopic of this year. Will Smith, who essayed the role of Richard, has beautifully recreated the father’s journey in turning his two daughters into world-renowned athletes.

Interestingly, American tennis coach Rick Macci, who coached Venus and Serena in their early years, expressed his excitement over receiving a barrage of messages about the phenomenal movie.
“Woke up today to 52 text messages about the movie! Can you say MASTERPIECE! LETS GO MR. OSCAR!” tweeted Macci.
Regarded as one of Williams sisters’ most influential coaches, Macci helped bring them to Delray Beach in the early 1990s after a poor upbringing in Compton, California. Actor Jon Bernthal portrays Macci in the film.
According to the movie, during Macci’s contract negotiations with the Williams, he agreed to take Venus on for free. He was so certain of Venus’ skill and her becoming successful, that he staked it all for a 15% cut of her would-be salary.
Macci, a seven-time USPTA national coach of the year, has coached five number one ranked players: Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, and the Williams sisters.
Meanwhile, Will Smith described the film screening for the Williams sisters as “the worst two hours of my life” because the legendary tennis stars became a mess with tears.
