Tony Stewart and his wife Leah Pruett welcomed a little blessing on November 17th and since then it has been all joys for the hearty couple. Stewart’s success in the field of motorsports has been phenomenal till now and he has raced across various tracks, be it USAC racing, IndyCar, or even NASCAR. Welcoming the baby boy simply added the best feather to his cap.
Fatherhood is an emotion that one has to experience and is surely the best of the titles that Stewart has experienced till now. The baby has been named Dominic Stewart, and he is certainly the apple of everyone’s eyes. Yet Stewart’s age has been a critical point of discussion for many, which he has gracefully dismissed. After all, 53 is indeed the most “timely” phase for him to welcome his bundle of joy!

If we look at the life of Tony Stewart, one would realize that there is probably not any type of car racing that he hasn’t tried his hands at and he has emerged successful in all of these. However, none of these have ever been a part of the big plan. Stewart describes himself as someone who believes in going with the flow and have never been a part of his personality. Talking about a busy weekend, Stewart described a whirlwind weekend while he was in Pomona California, for the NHRA qualifying.
Stewart traveled back to Phoenix to witness his son and then flew back to Pomona with the good news of him being a dad just before the Pomona Nationals Race Day. For some, 53 might be an unconventional age to have a child, but Stewart could not be happier. He got married to Leah, the love of his life in 2021, and belonging to the same professional background, both hardcore racing fans!
Yet on the flip side, some criticized the decision to have a child based on Stewart’s age. Reacting to the same, Stewart said, “I’m a firm believer of everything happens for a reason and things happen in the right times of your life. So in your life, you just have to be ready for them when they do come. And honestly, that has been my entire life in motorsports. There hasn’t been a master plan of everything.” He further added, “It was never part of the master plan. I am a big believer of that things happen for a reason and opportunities come at the right times”.
After all, if we look at the career trajectory of Stewart, it’s difficult to see anyone chart a career path like that in advance. Growing up, Smoke racing in the open-wheel category, not in stock cars. He was a prolific IndyCar driver when he decided to make the switch to NASCAR. It was a decision he wouldn’t look back on. With 3 Cup Series titles on his belt, Smoke had set himself up as racing royalty. Once he retired, he focused on his life with Leah Pruett when the racing bug came to him again.

Late in 2023, Leah Pruett decided to take a break from the NHRA to focus on starting a family. Now, Tony Stewart and his team could have gotten any driver to take over the reins of the drag car. Yet, Smoke stepped up, embracing a new challenge, one that just happened at the moment. In the end, it meant just as he started his fatherhood journey; he began racing in a completely new sport.

Embracing parenthood is a new journey indeed and Stewart promises to manage this new role alongside driver duties with the same conviction. For all the Tony Stewart fans, the good news is that he will be back on track for the NHRA. While speaking at the Race Industry Week session, Stewart said, “I’m going to be back in the Top Fuel car again next year. Leah has decided she wants to be a mom this first year. I’ll be honest; she is literally just over two weeks from having Dominic, and I am pretty confident that in about two or three weeks, she’ll be ready to get back in a Top Fuel car”.

The 2024 season has not been very favorable for Stewart and his team, given that this was the first time that the driver has tried his hands at full-time racing since 2016. However, he did manage to still bag the title of NHRA Rookie of the Year. His second season for the NHRA 2025 should be indeed more eventful and present fans with more victories staying true to the classic Tony Stewart style.
With Stewart’s determination and passion, the 2025 NHRA season promises to be a thrilling chapter for both him and his fans. As he balances fatherhood and racing, his journey is set to inspire and captivate motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.
