It’s a little more difficult than last year, but we pulled through.” Max Verstappen went through all the emotions after his Las Vegas finish. It’s not every day you get to equal the record of Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull car, and Max Verstappen knows it. As the final leg of the F1 calendar approaches, Qatar and Abu Dhabi coming one after another. Ahead of the Qatar weekend, many F1 drivers prepared for a chaotic end to the season. Max Verstappen, however, had different plans.

After the title win in Vegas, Max Verstappen took some time to celebrate with his family. After his sister uploaded a video of Verstappen trying something new, fans quickly took notice and couldn’t help but admire his spirit.

The newly crowned Formula One world champion may have wrapped things up in Las Vegas. However, the 2024 season is still far from over. Vegas was the start of three back-to-back race weekends, with Qatar next on the list, and everything concludes at Abu Dhabi. Of course, Verstappen will enter these final two races with no pressure on his shoulders. Now, the big battle will be about the constructor’s championship. Sadly, Max Verstappen cannot single-handedly win the constructor’s title for Red Bull. The dogfight is mostly between Ferrari and McLaren, with Red Bull hoping for a miracle in Qatar’s coming sprint and main race.

While the remaining races are a priority, it was important for the Dutchman to celebrate his fourth title. After all, given the dismal performance from the RB20 halfway through the season, the 2024 title wasn’t easy in any way. Max Verstappen and his family went surfing, not on the beach, but on an artificial ride in Qatar to lose a little stress. His sister shared a glimpse of what it was like to see the World Champion struggle for grip after he made overtaking look easy as can be in the wet Sao Paolo GP.

The video showed Verstappen being knocked over by another person who tried to surf. As a result, he tumbled over and the water carried him away and fans saw him wiped out. It was a moment that certainly left them laughing.

Many fans found clumsy Max Verstappen hilarious

Of course, the video of Verstappen riding the waves and wiping out, went viral on social media. There was no way a lot of F1 fans wouldn’t have come across the video and had a good laugh. Few commented that the 27-year-old seemed to only be built for racing, and nothing else. To be precise, one fan observed “He really is 100% specced into racing only.” Looking at Max Verstappen’s history as a racer, that may be true. Born to parents who were both racers, Max Verstappen got the bug for speed pretty early in life. His father, Jos Verstappen, trained him to driver karts at the age of four. The Flying Dutchman’s talent was such that he took home the Mini Junior championship at the age of 5!

Does Max Verstappen's surfing wipeout make him more human and relatable to fans?

Someone else also pointed out that Verstappen himself confessed his lack of talent in anything but racing. According to that Reddit user, “Max has said before he’s pretty useless at other sports apart from racing. Apparently GP [Gianpiero Lambiase] can beat him at Padel unless he manages to draw out a match to the point that his superior fitness can save him.” It’s not just GP Lambiase beating him on the Padel court. Recently, Verstappen and former teammate Daniel Ricciardo played games against a teenager in Monaco, who humbled both drivers by big scorelines.

Few were willing to cut Max Verstappen some slack for his wipeout. According to one person, “Tbf he was taken out by his sister, but his flailing is beautiful. Though, likely the result would’ve been the same without his sister too lol.” It was a moment of fun for Verstappen after a hard-fought title victory at Vegas. The World Champion often expressed his desire to spend quality time with his family. He puts it above winning 8-world titles, a record no driver holds at the moment.

Therefore, it’s no surprise when one fan went on to say, “Max is both the most robotic and most human world champion.” On the track, he’s a speed demon. He’s one of the purest racing drivers in the world, but off the track, he has a gentler side that fans rarely get to see. All one has to do is open his Twitch stream and it gives an interesting mixture of both aspects of his personality. In one instance, while he competed in an iRacing event, his daughter Penelope came up to him. Max Verstappen’s interaction with her was an adorable moment for fans. It was a reminder that beneath the bravado of a World Champion is an individual who wants to be happy with his family.
