Joe Rogan knows martial arts like the back of his hand. In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he was sitting with comedian Brian Simpson. The two were talking about the difficulties faced by anorexics in a way that certainly can’t be called medical. Somehow, the topic stopped at the host mentioning the most lethal MMA move out there.

Rogan’s podcast is well known for turning things around faster than a whirlwind. One moment the guests could be discussing the Moon landing and the next, how eating Elk meat on the moon helps blood flow better. Similar things happened when the podcaster mentioned a plethora of kicks that could annihilate the body.

Joe Rogan and Simpson were speaking about how anorexics have extremely weak bodies. This is when the idea of lethal kicks drifted into the conversation. Rogan started it off by mentioning how a turning sidekick could be enough to rupture the internal organs of a regular person:

“You could kill a regular person,” Rogan starts just as Simpson finishes laughing. “. . . you use a spinning back kick. That’s the most powerful kick. A turning sidekick, it’s called, it’s my specialty.”

Simpson goes on to argue that most people can’t quite “pull that off” to which Rogan very reasonably agrees. He explains why people don’t see them much in MMA because against professional fighters, they can be hard to land. Calf kicks, on the other hand, are a whole different story. The host mentioned his favorite kicker was Alex Pereira. Speaking about the move, Rogan recalled ‘Izzy’ going up against ‘Poatan’.

“You know what the most painful sh*t is?” Rogan questions his guest. “The calf kicks. And I’m saying this anecdotally . . . just getting massaged in your calves fu*king hurts like hell. These guys are kicking each other in the calf and it deadens your calf where you can’t walk right . . . Like Poatan, Alex Pereira. He’s the best I’ve ever seen it that. He’s the best at it. He’s so sneaky and Izzy, he got Izzy in the first fight and he was getting Izzy in the second fight with it.”

The host reminisced about the infamous ‘Poatan‘ Vs. ‘Izzy‘ fight where ‘Poatan’ clinched the belt away from ‘The Last Stylebender.’ Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t the only one who fell victim to the calf kicks. Everyone knows how Conor McGregor‘s leg is just no longer the same.

Conor McGregor’s injury

The painful moment was live in front of millions. Conor McGregor’s ankle snapped during his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Many fans suspect this was because of one of their prior fights when Poirier absolutely decimated the Irishman’s leg with his calf kicks.

Either way, Adesanya, McGregor, and a lot of other fighters would gladly agree that the calf kicks can be a difference-maker. What do you think is the deadliest move?
