Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns were involved in a war of words on Twitter earlier today. The two men are ranked in the top five of the division and are a win away from a title shot. Therefore, it makes sense that they were involved in a war of words, with Burns trying to get Edwards to accept a fight against him.
‘Durinho’ and ‘Rocky’ went back and forth multiple times on Twitter. The exchange started when Burns tagged Edwards, hoping for a response to a fight between the two. ‘Rocky’ responded, “You should fight Luque. You already snake one of your friends from the gym what’s another one to you.”
‘Durinho’ had a fiery response ready for the Brit. He said, “Your best win is Nate Diaz who is unranked and the last time he beat a true WW is….NEVER, you are on a 9 fight win streak and nobody gives a s**t about you. I’ve beat legends in Woodley, Maia and WB…come get this smoke…BRUMMIE C**T”

Leon Edwards responded a few times, but it was Burns who had the last say in the matter. His tweet said, “Truth of the matter is that I am helping you. If you don’t fight you will get skipped AGAIN. They are going to take you out of the rankings AGAIN Sitting out won’t help and @GamebredFighter isn’t going to fight you because he is still sleeping BRUNMIE C**T lol.”
Does a fight between Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns make sense?
The UFC’s welterweight rankings put Burns at #2 and Edwards at #3. ‘Rocky’ is on a nine-fight win streak. However, he will need to secure one more win to be able to fight for the title. Burns recently bounced back into the win column with a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson. Therefore, a fight between the two makes sense.

However, Jorge Masvidal has stated he would like to fight towards the end of this year. For Leon Edwards, a possible fight against Masvidal would not only be an excellent opportunity to settle the scores, but it would also be a mega payday.
It will interest UFC fans to see how the fights play out in the welterweight division over the next few months. Needless to say, fans will be spoiled with excellent matchups regardless of who Burns and Edwards end up fighting.
