This paved way for a title fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira. After overcoming adversity in round one, Oliveria secured a knockout win in round two to win the belt.

Following his win over Conor McGregor at UFC 264, it was all but certain that Poirier vs Oliveira for the lightweight belt is the fight to make. However, Poirier started going back and forth with Nate Diaz on Twitter and stated that he would like to face Diaz in multiple interviews. This promoted rumors that Poirier might snub a title shot once again for a money fight.
