He was spotted in Paul and Woodley’s locker room prior to the fight. ‘The Diamond’ and Woodley go a long way back, as both men trained at the world-famous American Top Team gym in Florida. And Poirier was recently gifted a $100,000 chain by Jake Paul that he auctioned off for his charity.

In a video shared on Twitter by Chamatkar Sandhu, Poirier shared an update on what is next for him in the UFC. He said, “What’s happening man, its Dustin Poirier. Backstage here at the Paul-Woodley fight in Ohio. And may the best man win. I know these guys are both working hard watching all the behind-the-scenes. Me? I think I am going to fight for the strap here, soon. Waiting to find out, Stay Tuned.!”

Dustin Poirier snubbed the chance to fight for the vacant lightweight belt, opting to finish a trilogy with Conor McGregor instead. This paved way for a title fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira. After overcoming adversity in round one, Oliveria secured a knockout win in round two to win the belt.
Following his win over Conor McGregor at UFC 264, it was all but certain that Poirier vs Oliveira for the lightweight belt is the fight to make. However, Poirier started going back and forth with Nate Diaz on Twitter and stated that he would like to face Diaz in multiple interviews. This promoted rumors that Poirier might snub a title shot once again for a money fight.

However, Poirier has himself now confirmed that a title shot is next for him. If the fight between the two men is finalized, it will be their combined 56th UFC bout. Which is a record for the most shared octagon appearances in a title fight.
