Namajunas is known for many things like submission specialty, and her nickname. But there is one more thing that made quite a bit of a headline when it was done. Her haircut.
Before she met Paige VanZant for their main event clash at UFC Fight Night 80 on Dec 10, 2015, ‘Thug’ had her previously blonde long hair cut off.
The fighter even had something to say on her Instagram handle about the same. She had added a picture of her new hairstyle with the caption in the photo, “It’s a fight not a beauty pageant. Sh**’s in my way at practice… cut it off.”
During the interview prior to her fight, she was asked if she’s surprised that so many people have made stories about her haircut. She said she wasn’t surprised by it and asked why hair is even a big deal. ‘Thug’ said, “Like, I’m not surprised but at the same time I ask the question why is hair even a big deal?”
She further had asked why should anybody even care about it and proclaimed further that’s the way society is. She mentioned further that this haircut in a way was targeted at people thinking of this sport as a beauty pageant.
‘Thug’ mentioned that she was always into sports growing up and didn’t want to do anything with her hair. She even said she didn’t even know how to treat her hair properly.
