Junior dos Santos is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. However, the champion seems to be past his prime and facing a bad swing in his career. He has dropped his last four fights, with his latest loss coming at UFC 256 via knockout by Cyril Gane.

People wondered whether the KO strike by Gane landed to the back of the head of JDS, but it was ruled to be a clean punch and the KO stood. JDS is not happy as he spoke to AG Fight.

“The UFC said nothing more. For him everything is fine, which for me is absurd to happen. A clearly illegal shot and several fighters and the president favorable to what happened, and for me, this is tremendously absurd. In fact, everyone agrees that it was illegal, but what they say is that I turned around and positioned myself that way,” dos Santos said.

While Dos Santos is right to feel cheated, he went on to say more about this situation.

“In terms of comparison, which is not even supposed to be used, it is like the victim being guilty of crime, theft, murder, rape. I don’t think it was intentional, but it does not remove the illegality. They are saying that I turned, but I didn’t turn. I was already on the side of him for about eight seconds and you can see the elbow from that point and behind the head.”

While the stoppage is contentious, this comes down to a matter of opinion. If the UFC accepts it as a legitimate result, they usually don’t say much about it. The fact that Dana White has not intervened in this matter is one of the things that has irked JDS, which is understandable.

Gane is clearly being pushed as a future title contender. The undefeated fighter got a big win with the KO over JDS. Even though JDS is miffed about it now, this controversy will most likely be forgotten.
