The main event will see Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko defend her title against Jennifer Maia. Scheduled for November 21, a spot on the UFC 255 card would have put Murphy in arguably the best position to get the next title shot.
Lauren took to reply to a Brett Okamoto tweet which had broken the news of Chookagian vs Calvillo.
“LOLOL I told Mick on Friday, I would fight Cynthia Dec 12. It was supposed to be a #1 contenders bout. He sent a contract. I asked to sleep on it because there’s some big stuff in it, shit way over my head. Tried to call him this AM. Woke up from a nap today and saw this.”
Murphy is not pleased that she did not get the time to review the contract. The UFC however is a well-oiled machine that stops for no one. With her delay, the promotion seems to have moved on to other contenders.
Lauren Murphy focused on the Flyweight title
‘Lucky’ clarified, “I DID TAKE IT. I said I would postpone an international vacation, make weight on the 21st for back up, AND fight Cynthia on the 12th of December. I said I would do all of that. Then asked to think about the contract he sent and woke up to that announced bout agreement.”

Murphy has put on some impressive performances against Andrea Lee and Roxanne Modafferi. Her most impressive performance came at the recent UFC 254 card, headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
With a lot of eyes on her, Murphy would finish her opponent in the second round with a rear-naked choke. It’s been an impressive year for Lauren, with 3 wins from 3 fights in 2020.
With the momentum on her side, Murphy is looking to get herself in title contention. “I’ll fight Andrade or the winner of Chookagian/Calvillo. I’ll fight whoever gets me to the title,” Murphy tweeted.
