UFC 259 has a triple-header of title fights. The title fight festivities will begin with Petr Yan defending the Men’s Bantamweight Championship against Aljamain Sterling. The main event will have Jan Blachowicz defend the Light Heavyweight title against Israel Adesanya. However, between the two bouts is Megan Anderson looking to be the one to end Amanda Nunes Featherweight title reign.
Amanda Nunes (20-4) has spent the last few years decimating anyone that was ever considered the greatest female fighter. Her last win was a dominant decision win over the over-matched Felicia Spencer for the Bantamweight title. Megan Anderson (11-4) is considered similarly over-matched but is coming off a first-round KO of Norma Dumont.

The Featherweight division is quite thin right now and the UFC is trying its best to get the ‘Lioness’ opponents. Anderson is a massive underdog in this fight, and rightfully so. The UFC does not have established contenders that can match up to everything Nunes has done.
This fight was originally booked for UFC 256 but was postponed after Nunes pulled out last time. So will this matchup be another Nunes whitewash or the stage for one of the biggest upsets in recent history?

Nunes decimated Felicia Spencer in her last fight. It genuinely seemed unfair for Spencer to be in the cage and take that much punishment from Amanda. However, Megan Anderson poses a different threat. She is the tallest fighter on the women’s roster and has dangerous kickboxing. However, Anderson’s last loss was to Spencer. In her last seven wins, she has finished all opponents.

Nunes is one of the most complete fighters and can take the fight anywhere. She can stand and band with Cris Cyborg and also use ground-and-pound to beat opponents like Spencer. Nunes is on an 11-fight winning streak and looks like she will never be topped. However, every champion is built to fall.

In our prediction for this, we do not anticipate that happening. Even if Megan has a range advantage, that doesn’t mean the fight is hers. Nunes is an incredible striker and can easily move in and out of Megan’s range to land damaging blows. If Anderson cannot control the pace of the fight, she is bound to go to hell with Nunes.
