UFC women’s flyweight elite Lauren Murphy recently picked up a split decision win over Joanne Calderwood at UFC 263. The American improved his overall career record as she has now racked up 5 consecutive wins.

With the aforementioned winning streak, ‘Lucky’ Murphy feels she has done enough to gain an opportunity for the flyweight title shot against the divisional champion Valentina Shevchenko.

In a recent interview, the American talked about her next possible opponent, Shevchenko.

“I think she is an incredible champion, “Murphy said. “I thought she did have, you know, shout out performance, it was incredible.”

Murphy then talked about the time she advocated for Andrade to get a title shot. Thinking she deserved that with her impressive resume. The duo (Shevchenko an Andrade) battled it out at UFC 261 and the champ demolished Andrade en route to a second round TKO win.

‘Lucky’ then talked about his team, who has worked tirelessly with her for two years and has helped her pick up the wins. She added, “We gonna keep winning, we gonna do this again.”

‘Lucky’ believes in her coaching team and vice versa. According to her, they will sort out a plan to upset Shevchenko if the fight takes place.

“I think we will find holes in Valentina’s game and I think I’m strong enough to exploit them,” she added. “She hasn’t faced anybody as tough as me. She hasn’t faced anybody that can grind her like I can grind.”

After her win against Calderwood, Murphy (15-4) appeared for the post fight interview. She talked about her impressive win streak and why she deserves a title shot.

Yeah, I’ve been the number 1 contender for a long time,” she told. “Like who else are you guys gonna throw at me. I can’t stress this enough, but all the wins I have are over ranked opponents. Barb Honchak was ranked no.3.”

“I considered Andree lee at 4 to 1 favorite over me, she was ranked No.7. Mara Borella was the favorite. I knocked her out. Liliya Shakirova took the fight on like on a weeks’ notice. I think she was like 9-0; she was a champion of another promotion.”

Well, it will be interesting to see how Shevchenko reacts to the challenge thrown up by Murphy. After all, there are only few to none fighters left who can pose a threat to her title.
