The lightweight title will be on the line when Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler face off at UFC 262 on May 15. After Dana White announced on Instagram that Khabib was officially retired, the fight announcement between Chandler and Oliveira came shortly after.

Although many believed that Chandler did not deserve a title shot, Poirier choosing a rematch with Conor over a title shot gave ‘Iron’ the opportunity to fight for the UFC title in just his second fight in the UFC.

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor were set to face each other for the third time on July 10th at UFC 264. However, recent developments suggest the fight might be off.

Michael Chandler aims for a quick turnaround to fight Conor McGregor

Following accusations that ‘The Good Fight Foundation’ did not receive a $500,000 promised by McGregor, ‘The Notorious’ and ‘The Diamond’ got into a war of words on Twitter that got ugly.

In one such Tweet, Conor stated that the fight was off and that he would not fight Dustin Poirier. If this is actually the case, it opens up a huge opportunity for fighters to secure a fight against the biggest name in the sport.

Recognizing the opportunity, Michael Chandler put out a tweet stating, “May 15 and July 10…book it! #backtoback”

Chandler has had an impressive tenure in the UFC thus far and has made it no secret that he would like to fight Conor McGregor at some point. However, he has a tough task ahead of him in Charles Oliveira. If he is able to take care of Oliveira the same way he did Hooker, he would have no problem filling in the sport against Conor at UFC 264.

Iron’ is not the only fighter to have thrown his name in the mix. Kevin Lee is also interested in a matchup against ‘The Notorious’. He tweeted, “I can be ready by July 10th” followed by, “Lemme fit in this bih @TheNotoriousMMA @danawhite I can be ready July 10”.
