Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier have been going back and forth on Twitter over the past few days. Diaz has accused Poirier of ducking him not once but twice and has issued a challenge to ‘The Diamond’ for a fight. Poirier, on the other hand, insists that he has not ducked a fight and stated “They’re lying and you’re getting played.”

Is a fight between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz a possibility?

Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier were supposed to face each other at UFC 230. The fight, unfortunately, did not materialize as ‘The Diamond’ pulled out of the fight due to an injury. Diaz also pulled out of the fight card and did not face anyone at UFC 230.

Three years on from the event, both men are still itching for an opportunity to fight each other. However, circumstances are very different right now, and getting a fight done between Poirier and Diaz would be extremely tough and also would not make sense at this point in time.

For starters, Diaz has not competed at 155-pounds since his fight against Michael Johnson, which was all the way back in 2015. Since then, he has only competed at 170-pounds. To add to that, Poirier is currently in line for a title shot against Charles Oliveira. ‘The Diamond’ opted for the trilogy with McGregor over a chance to fight for the belt.

Now that the trilogy is finished, Poirier will most definitely fight for the belt. A fight against Diaz will definitely be a bigger payday for him, but it does not seem likely that Poirier will shun a title shot once again in favor of a big payday. Additionally, if Poirier wins the title, he will have a line of fighters wanting a shot at the title that he will not be able to skip to fight Diaz.
