One such figure is Dan Hooker. ‘The Hangman’ appeared for an interview with Submission Radio and discussed various things that also included a prediction for the winner of the aforementioned fight.

“That’s like an exciting fight, I (would) like to see that fight,” Hooker said. “I like to see how that plays out but yeah… I just don’t think Oliveira will be able to get him down, from being honest.”

Hooker knows Dustin very well. After all, they were involved in a 5-star classic match last year where Poirier narrowly got the better of him. Hooker described how it gets better and better for Poirier as the round progresses.

“I will say, Dustin, is, like, more durable… He enjoys that kind of a fight, 4th, 5th round… I feel like, Charles is an elite fighter but I feel like just Dustin stylistic wise, just has the tools, has the tools to beat him.”

Can Dustin Poirier beat Oliveira?

Just like Hooker, many tip Poirier to beat Oliveira. Although Oliveira is currently riding a 9 fight win streak, he hasn’t faced many top-notch fighters of the lightweight division. Except for Tony Ferguson and Michael Chandler, his list doesn’t include legitimate prizefighters.

Poirier meanwhile, has been ruthless since his fight with McGregor in 2014. In his last 10 fights, he has only lost once. That loss came against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2019. His list includes some of the interim and former UFC champions with the likes of Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, and Conor McGregor of course.

Every time he steps up inside the ring, he comes out as a better fighter. Though nothing to take away from Oliveira. The latter has been ruthless too, but it might take his absolute best to stop the juggernaut of ‘The Diamond’.
