Beneil Dariush made a statement at UFC 262. The Iranian-born fighter dominated fan-favorite Tony Ferguson over three rounds to secure a resounding unanimous decision win at UFC 262. In the process, he extended his win streak to 7-0 in one of the most talent-stacked divisions in the UFC.

This was the first time that Dariush had fought someone in the top five in the division. And needless to say, he put on an extremely good show. In the post-fight conference, he stated that he would like to fight a higher-ranked opponent in his next fight. He also stated that he would like his next fight to be towards the end of this year or early next year since he is expecting a child with his wife anytime soon.

Beneil Dariush is the dark horse in the lightweight division

In the post-fight press conference, John Morgan asked Dariush what he made of being booed by the fans and if he took it personally.

Dariush replied, “Nah, Nah, it’s not personal. But I will say this, they better not be fickle. The same fans that just cheered Tony on like that, they better cheer for him every single fight. I better not see those stupid comments about Tony. Ah, he’s done, he’s this, he’s that. You know, you’re going to support him, support him throughout his whole career.”

He continued, “Don’t support him just for the day. And now that he is not doing well, forget about him. So, that’s the only thing, man. If you’re going to be a Tony fan, be a Tony fan for life. I don’t wanna see that cr*p about him, ah this and that. I just see so many negative comments, online man. It just makes you wanna stay away from it.”

In the post-fight press conference, Dana White stated that a top 5 fighter would be next for Dariush. An extremely interesting fight to be made would have been Dariush vs Gaethje.

However, it is unlikely that ‘The Highlight’ will wait till the end of the year or early next year for a fight. Islam Makhachev, who will fight Thiago Moises next, would also be a good fight for Dariush. However, few fights have to play out before Dariush can find his next opponent.

What did you make of Dariush’s performance at UFC 262, who would you like to see him face next?
