The UFC’s welterweight division is abuzz right now. At UFC 258, the champion, Kamaru Usman, beat Gilbert Burns to retain his belt. Subsequently, he called out Jorge Masvidal and stated that even if he had a full training camp, the result would not be different from the first fight. Colby Covington agreed with this.
‘Chaos’ has been on the sidelines waiting for a fight since his outing against ‘The Chosen One’. Covington put on a dominant display and became the first man in the UFC to stop the former champion, Tyron Woodley.
Ever since the win, he has been gunning for a rematch with Kamaru Usman, stating that the champion was saved the first time around by faking groin and eye strikes.

It is no secret that the UFC was working on a fight between Masvidal and Covington. However, it seems as though that fight has hit a dead end. Therefore, the UFC is looking at booking a fight between Edwards and Colby. ‘Chaos’ said he has no interest in this fight.
In a recent interview, Submission Radio asked Colby if a fight against Edwards would have appealed to him more had ‘Rocky’ gotten past Khamzat Chimaev.
The former interim champion replied, “Who is this Khamy? Khamyzat? Who? Who is this guy I’ve never heard of him… How many ranked fighters did he beat? You want me to talk about a guy who has not even beat a ranked guy? I have like four champions on my resume in my last four fights. Let’s talk about real business.”
Colby Covington makes his case for a title shot ahead of Jorge Masvidal
‘Chaos’ had the champion reeling when they fought at UFC 245 and can claim to have pushed Usman the most in the champion’s last four fights. He went on to stake his claim for a title shot ahead of ‘Gamebred’ and anyone else in the division.
Covington continued, “Let’s not talk about charity business no more. I deserve, and I earned to fight for the world title. I just destroyed the former champion, finished him like nobody has ever finished him before in the UFC. I came back and won a fight. What has Jorge Masvidal done besides sit on the sidelines and fake pull out of fights.”

It appears as though the UFC is working on a season of The Ultimate Fighter with Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal as the two coaches, which will culminate in a fight between the two men. This would mean that Colby would have to wait for the second half of the year if he wants to challenge for the welterweight strap once again.
