The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the fiercest rivalries in the sport’s history. There have been many instances where fighters have had an immense hatred for the opponent standing across the octagon from them. However, after a fight, mutual respect between the two men is established more often than not. 

That has not been the case with Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. There has perhaps never been a rivalry in MMA that has gotten so personal. Family, friends, and religion, among other things, have been dragged into the war of words between the two men. Mostly perpetuated by Conor McGregor.

Can Conor McGregor entice Khabib Nurmagomedov to a rematch?

As he has done multiple times in the past, ‘The Notorious’ took to Twitter to bash his foe ‘The Eagle’. McGregor initially replied to a tweet by a fan. The tweet stated McGregor cheated during the fight as he pointed out a few instances. The Irish superstar then followed it up with a barrage of insults aimed at Nurmagomedov. 

This is not the first time Conor McGregor has trash-talked the Dagestani champion, and it most definitely will not be the last time.

If he were to win the fight, he would establish himself as a top lightweight once again. However, if he cannot win the fight, the damage to his career would be immense. Furthermore, McGregor would aim to get a rematch against Nurmagomedov. However, ‘The Eagle’ is happily retired at the moment and has no intentions of coming back.

However, if Conor McGregor can continue winning, he might soon cross paths with Nurmagomedov’s protege, Islam Makhachev. Perhaps the only way Conor McGregor can secure a rematch with Nurmagomedov is if he earns a dominant win over Islam Makhachev should the two men ever fight.
