The UFC will kick off the new year in style at Fight Island with three extremely stacked cards. It will be the promotion’s third stint at the location following the outbreak of the pandemic. An interesting bout at featherweight between former champion Max Holloway and up-and-coming challenger Calvin Kattar will come to fruition on January 16th.
Max Holloway is ranked number one in the division, whereas Calvin Kattar is ranked 5th. The fight will be an excellent opportunity for Kattar to prove himself against a tough opponent and a former champion in ‘Blessed’. If he is able to secure a win, he will make a strong claim for a title shot in the not too distant future.

Will Calvin Kattar be able to secure a third win on the trot?
In a recent interview, Mike Heck of MMA Fighting asked ‘The Boston Finisher’ if it felt different knowing that he would be standing across the octagon from Max Holloway who is considered the best 145-pound fighter of all time.
‘The Boston Finisher’ replied, “It’s a good opportunity to show why I think I am that guy. You know these guys are all telling Max he is still the champion and I think maybe he’s still focused on the champ. So overlooking me would be a mistake”Kattar has been in the UFC since 2017. While he has never fought for the title, he has come close on multiple occasions. ‘The Boston Finisher’ has never won three fights straight in the UFC. In his career with the promotion thus far, two wins have always been followed by a loss.
‘The Boston Finisher’ bounced back from a loss against Magomedsharipov to secure impressive wins over the likes of Dan Ige and Jeremy Stephens. The former champion will prove to be his toughest test and rankings wise is a class apart from his previous opponents.
