Gabriel Benitez vs Justin Jaynes was set to be an interesting featherweight bout scheduled for the November 14 Fight Night at the UFC Apex. However, given the situation the world is in right now, putting on fights is an arduous task. The UFC was one of the first sports to get back to live-action. That has brought along with it a new set of challenges.

The promotion has taken the utmost care when it comes to keeping its fighters safe during fight week. However, the UFC has no control over the safety of its fighters outside of fight week. This has meant that a lot of fights have had to be canceled or rescheduled as fighters have tested positive.

Gabriel Benitez vs Justin Jaynes will be rescheduled for a later date

Gabriel Benitez (21-8) was removed from the card as he tested positive for COVID-19. Neither fighter is currently ranked in the UFC’s featherweight division. Nonetheless, both ‘Moggly’ and ‘The Guitar Hero’ have put on some incredibly exciting fights in the past.

‘Moggly’ has been in the UFC since 2014. He made his debut with a win over Humberto Brown. Since then, ‘Moggly’ has fought nine times in the UFC with a record of 5-4. Benitez is currently on a two-fight skid. He suffered a TKO loss against Sodiq Yusuff and a unanimous decision loss to Omar Morales. Gabriel was hoping to bounce back into the win column against a tough opponent in Justin Jaynes.

His opponent made his promotional debut this year. ‘Guitar Hero’ started off his UFC career with a stunning 40-second TKO victory over Frank Camacho. He then succumbed to a loss against Gavin Tucker in August..

Jaynes has some extremely heavy hands and has secured 50% of his wins via T/KO. Benitez on the other hand has secured 50% of his wins via submission. Stylistically the fight would be extremely intriguing.

Both men are gunning for champion Alexander Volkanovski‘s throne. Though they are far away from the scene, a win would have taken them one step closer. Given Benitez’s withdrawal, the UFC is not retaining Jaynes and is instead working on rescheduling the fight.
