Kamaru Usman recently defended his belt for the second time against Jorge Masvidal. The undefeated welterweight champion is one of the best fighters on the UFC roster. At 251 in Abu Dhabi, Usman defended his belt against an extremely short notice opponent in Jorge Masvidal.

This made way for an interesting build-up and fight against Jorge Masvidal, the BMF. Usman secured a unanimous decision win to extend his unbeaten streak to 16-0.

Usman, on the other hand, looked impressive against Masvidal. A dangerous fight he accepted with a week’s notice. However, should the fight happen in January 2021, it would mean that Burns has been on the sidelines for more than seven months, which is not something he or the UFC want.

Leon Edwards is a name that has been in and around the title picture for a while now. He is on an 8-fight win streak and is a top contender in the welterweight division. Colby also recently had a good performance against Tyron Woodley. Therefore, if the UFC are not keen on keeping Burns on the sidelines for so long, a number one contender fight between Burns and Edwards or Burns and Covington will be a good option to consider.
