With the end of the year drawing closer, there are only a few more UFC events left for 2021 before the promotion goes on month-long hiatus. Therefore, the fight bookings are coming in thick and fast for fight cards that are remaining this year and also for fight cards in early 2022. One such fight that was recently announced was a welterweight bout between Belal Muhammad and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
The two men are booked for a fight on the last card of the year for the promotion. The fight card will take place on December 18th. Derrick Lewis will headline it in a heavyweight main event against Chris Daukaus.

Can Stephen Thompson get back into the win column against Belal Muhammad?
‘Wonderboy’ and ‘Remember the Name’ come into the fight on the back of contrasting results. Thompson suffered a unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 264 earlier this year. This put an end to his impressive two-fight win streak.
Muhammad, on the other hand, bounced back and secured an impressive win over Demian Maia after a no-contest in his bout against Leon Edwards.

The fight is an extremely interesting matchup between two contrasting styles. Thompson is one of the best strikers not only in the welterweight division but in the UFC period. Meanwhile, Muhammad is primarily a striker who also has a solid wrestling game which he uses when needed, averaging 1.80 takedowns per 15-minutes.
‘Wonderboy’ will have a height advantage and a three-inch reach advantage, heading into the fight. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Muhammad stands and engages with Thompson in a striking match or resorts to his wrestling.

Muhammad, who sits at #9 in the rankings, is currently on a five-fight win streak. He will be aiming to build on that against the #5 ranked ‘Wonderboy’. A win over Thompson will allow Muhammad to crack into the top five in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
