Alexander Volkanovski is the undisputed featherweight champion in the UFC. However, the Australian champion has not been able to win over the support of fans as he would have hoped to do. This is mainly due to the fact that many fans believe that he did not win the second fight against Holloway and therefore, do not recognize him as the legitimate champion in the division.
While the fan’s perception is something Volkanovski can not do much about, the Australian feels he is not being helped by the commentary team either. In a recent interview, ‘The Great’ bashed the UFC team for being incredibly biased in his fights. Most notably in his fight against Max Holloway. He said, “Mate, let me tell ya. I don’t wanna bring it up, but we were just watching that (Volkanovski vs. Holloway 2 at UFC 251), cause we obviously talk about the bias going into even the Ortega match. But there was a bit of a bias.”

Volkanovski continued, “Damn, it is hard to watch that second Max fight with how bad they (Jon Anik and Michael Bisping) were. Like, I need to say something to these guys cause that is pretty bad. We just watched that and we were just laughing, I was like, ‘Are they serious or what?’ It was pretty incredible. Not that it wasn’t close, obviously it was close, but I mean, these guys don’t help my situation one bit. You know, it was pretty embarrassing on their behalf. They sort of tried to do that again, I feel, to Ortega. It’s like Americans against the Aussies.”(h/t mmanews.com)

‘The Great’ is currently on a 19-fight win streak that includes two title defenses. He has never been beaten in the UFC and has secured wins over two of the greatest featherweights to have ever competed in the UFC in Jose Aldo and Max Holloway.
Volkanovski is an extremely well-rounded fighter and puts on a show every time he steps into the octagon. A trilogy with Max Holloway will most likely be next for him if ‘Blessed’ is able to get past Rodriguez in his upcoming fight. A third win over Max Holloway might just be the fight that finally helps his image with the fans, and establish himself as one of the best 145-pound champion in the UFC.
