Jose Aldo extended his win streak to 3-0 at UFC Vegas 44. ‘The King of Rio’ secured an impressive win over number four ranked Rob Font to further showcase his improvement as a fighter, since dropping down to 135-pounds. Aljamain Sterling, who was in attendance at the fight, shared his thoughts on Aldo and his performance.

He said, “I think you’ve just got to stay in his face the whole time; that’s my personal opinion. When he started taking Rob Font down, he was a fish out on land, so to speak. … He’s a black belt, he’s a legend. He’s done what he’s done in the history books for a reason, but I do believe I have the tools to beat every one of these guys in the bantamweight division.”

After a loss against Alexander Volkanovski, Jose Aldo decided to drop down a weight class and fight at bantamweight. His first two fights at 135-pounds did not go his way as he succumbed to losses against the likes of Marlon Moraes and champion Petr Yan.

However, ‘Junior’ has since shown terrific improvement and is currently on a three-fight win streak. In the process he has proved all of his doubters wrong which includes former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov who stated that Aldo was not at his peak at the moment. ‘The Eagle’ also discredited recent success that ‘Junior’ has had.

Is a title eliminator next for Jose Aldo?

After a resounding, unanimous decision win over Rob Font, Jose Aldo made it very clear as to what he wanted in his next fight. He said, “Of course I want to fight for the title but we don’t know what’s going to happen with that. Dillashaw’s right there, so I want to fight Dillashaw. That would be the best opponent next.”

TJ Dillashaw is currently nursing a knee injury that he suffered during his fight with Cory Sandhagen. Dillashaw expects to be able to compete in the first half of 2022. If the fight between Aldo and Dillashaw gets booked, it will be a fight for the number one contender spot, without a doubt.
