Former ONE Championship two-division champion, Aung La N Sang, wants to get back on the middleweight throne, and Sang wants to face Yushin Okami before he challenges for the title against Reinier De Ridder.
Sang, who was the ONE middleweight and light heavyweight champion, lost both of his titles to Reinier De Ridder.
The pair first clashed at ONE Championship: Inside the Matrix, where Ridder emerged victorious via submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round. It resulted in Sang losing his ONE middleweight title.

Then the rematch took place at ONE on TNT 4, where Sang lost again, this time via a unanimous decision. The second loss resulted in Sang losing his ONE light heavyweight title to Ridder.
In both fights, Sang succumbed to the elite wrestling skills of Ridder. However, he wasted no time and bounced back immediately, claiming a dominating first-round KO victory over Leandro Ataides at ONE Championship: Battleground.

Aung La N Sang on Yushin Okami fight
Defeating someone like Ataides, who lost to Ridder via a controversial decision, is a “good statement,” as per Sang. Thus, he thinks facing Yushin Okami, who previously contended for the UFC middleweight title, will be another good choice as an opponent.
Meanwhile, Yushin Okami has also made it clear he wants to fight Sang. He even called him out on Twitter.
In a recent interview with ‘SCMP MMA,’ Sang said – “You know me… I’m down for any scrap, and Yushin Okami called me out after my fight. I think it would be a great fight.”
“He’s somebody that I used to watch and one of the best Asian middleweights, let’s put on a show. I’m always down for it, but it’s really up to ONE Championship and the fans.” – Sang added.
Sang on why he wants to fight Okami
As aforementioned, Sang was out-grappled in both of his fights against Ridder. Thus, Sang thinks the Okami fight will be good practice for a potential trilogy against Ridder.
While talking about the same with ‘SCMP MMA,’ Sang said – “I don‘t want to disrespect Okami, he’s not de Ridder, but that kind of build gives me trouble… Especially the longer grapplers, they do give me trouble – even in training. My friend Steve Mowry. He is 6ft 8in and has very strong grappling.”
“So it would be a great match-up [with Okami], and it’d be exciting, man. We always put on exciting fights. Yushin Okami always brings it too.” – Sang concluded.
