UFC Vegas 28 is the next UFC event in line, taking place on July 5th, 2021. Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Augusto Sakai are headlining the event in a marquee match-up for the heavyweights.

However, another mainstream fight in Angela Hill vs. Amanda Ribas won’t be a part of the event anymore, With Ribas still dealing with lingering COVID-19 symptoms, the fight has been pulled for the second time in as many events.

The two strawweight contenders were expected to fight on May 8th at UFC on ESPN 24, but Ribas and her father tested positive for COVID-19, and the fight was removed hours before the event.

The problem of post-COVID symptoms, which had affected big fighters like Khamzat Chimaev and Cody Garbrandt, have affected Ribas too.

Hill will not remain on the card either. In addition to that, the middleweight bout between Maki Pitolo and Dusko Todorovic stands canceled as well.

Maki Pitolo withdrew from the event after he suffered an injury. However, Todorovic is still on the card and is looking for a fight. He’s an exciting prospect with a record of 10-1, coming off an unfortunate loss. A win here would help him regain his momentum.

The third fight to get canceled was a fight between Makwan Amirkhani and Nate Landwehr. UFC is currently on the lookout for a replacement after Nate Landwehr pulled out of the fight due to injury concerns.

The featherweight is actively seeking a fight after losing to Edson Barboza in his last fight. He has a decent record of 6-3 in the UFC.

Amanda Ribas vs. Angela Hill: A possible top ten match-up

The strawweight contenders are ranked number 11 and 12 in the official UFC rankings, with Ribas ranked at 11. Their fight will determine who breaks into the Top-10 of the rankings.

Ribas is just 27 and has an impressive record of 10-2. However, she is coming off of a loss, having faltered against Marina Rodriguez in her last fight.

Meanwhile, Hill beat Ashley Yoder in her last fight to increase her chances of making a final title charge. Hill is 36 years old, and with a subpar record of 13-9, she is close to heading out of the UFC. This will be a chance for her to redeem herself.
