Uncanny mismatches have become a common phenomenon in today’s boxing, with several MMA stars and celebrity athletes stepping through the ring ropes. Meanwhile, Nate Diaz may have delivered the most bizarre callout in recent memory. The UFC star expressed interest in facing heavyweight star Anthony Joshua in a boxing ring, which was hard to digest for several fans.

Diaz was present at the Chukchansi Arena in Fresno to watch Mikey Garcia vs Sandor Martin. In a shocking upset. Garcia lost the fight via majority decision. However, Nate Diaz stole the limelight with a shocking claim.

In a chat with ESNEWS, when asked how a fight between him and Mikey Garcia will appear in boxing, the Stockton star said, “I only want to fight Joshua.”

Nevertheless, these claims aren’t credible enough to fantasize about a potential fight between Diaz and Joshua. Both men come from different combat backgrounds and fight at different weight classes. Hence, it is unlikely that a fight between them will get sanctioned.

Also, as ‘AJ ‘ is near the top of the division, he may not be too keen to box a UFC 170 pounder. Considering this, the Nate Diaz call-out can be classified as banter.

What’s next for Anthony Joshua?

After his recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk on September 25, Anthony Joshua is in the clutches of criticisms. He will rematch Oleksandr Usyk for WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO belts to resurrect himself in the heavyweight title ride and proceed to the undisputed title fight. Hence, Joshua may not entertain the idea of a Nate Diaz fight at such a crucial stage.

Unless he wins back the title, there’s no way ‘AJ’ stays in the prime heavyweight picture. That being said, Joshua cannot afford to contract another loss at this stage. While it isn’t a secret that ‘AJ’ has invoked his rematch clause, the date remains a mystery. Hence, we know what’s next for Joshua, but we don’t know when it will take place.
