Fedor Emelianenko is a veteran of the sport. The 44-year-old has been competing for over two decades now under various promotions. During this time, he has faced legends of the sport, and more often than not, he has come out on top. ‘The Last Emperor’ recently announced that he would be competing once again under Bellator later this year.

This will end Emelianenko’s almost two-year absence from the sport.

A fight against Emelianenko is without a doubt one that will attract a lot of eyeballs. Therefore, there is no shortage of opponents for ‘The Last Emperor’. One such fighter who has thrown his name in the mix is former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. The Brazilian has a win over Emelianenko when the two faced each other in June 2010.

Werdum took to Twitter to put up a poll with the question, “Who should Fedor fight next?”. The three options were Werdum himself, Junior dos Santos and Josh Barnett. Unsurprisingly, fans voted heavily in favor of Fabricio Werdum.

The former champion also put out a series of tweets building his case for a fight against Emelianenko. He said, “Fedor was never the goat because I killed the Goat @ScottCoker let’s go”. ‘Vai Cavalo’ followed that up with, “IF fedor The (Goat) do you need revenge from me HEY I’m ready to go to Russia”

The first time the two men fought, Werdum was a heavy underdog against a man who was on an 11-fight win streak and looked unstoppable. However, Werdum was able to take the fight to the ground and use his extensive knowledge in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to secure a submission win over ‘The Last Emperor’.

Werdum is currently signed with PFL and last competed in a fight against Renan Ferreira on May 6th, 2021. Although he lost the fight, the decision was later overturned. ‘Vai Cavalo’ was set to fight towards the end of June but withdrew due to concerns over his health.

Given that Werdum is currently signed with the PFL, it would be difficult to see him get a fight against Emelianenko given the plethora of talent and names currently available in the Bellator heavyweight division.
