In 2021, Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore made a bid on the Minnesota Timberwolves, and since then, A-Rod has been present at almost every Timberwolves game. But long before A-Rod, a reporter with Bally Sports Marney Geller had been covering every Minnesota major league team, from the Twins to the Wolves.

In March, Marney Gellner, who is 49 years old today, disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and needed to undergo a lumpectomy. However, in a recent update, she revealed that she ultimately had a single mastectomy instead, and thankfully, no further treatment is needed and no one was as happy as Alex Rodriguez.

Marney Gellner shared a very positive update on her health and said, “A personal health update: 2 weeks ago today, I had a single mastectomy. Definitely not part of the original plan, but sometimes the plan changes and you gotta pivot like Ross Geller. I finally got clear margins and I am now breast cancer free! No further treatment needed” 

A-Rod quote tweeted Gellner’s update, and said, “Amazing news Marney!”

Gellner, who has spent her career in Minnesota covering various sports teams, including the Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, and Lynx, has made history as the first woman to do play-by-play for a Minnesota Twins broadcast and as the second woman ever to serve as the lead television play-by-play announcer for an NBA game.

Minnesota Timberwolves: A Look Back at the 2022-23 Season

The Minnesota Timberwolves finished the 2022-23 season in the eighth spot in the Western Conference with a record of 42 wins and 40 losses, equalling a 0.512 win percentage. Although they lost to the Lakers in the play-in round, they defeated the Oklahoma Thunder to secure a place in the postseason. However, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing 4-1 to the Denver Nuggets.

The 2022 season for the Timberwolves was ordinary, leaving room for growth and development. With A-Rod and Marc Lore consistently on the sidelines, there is anticipation for even further progress in 2023. And just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, it’s only been two seasons since Lore and A-Rod entered the Timberwolves setup.
