The New York Mets are amid a troubling season for the franchise. Trailing other contending teams at 4th in the NL East, it feels safe to say that the franchise has thrown in the towel for the 2023 season. Despite starting out the season as favorites to potentially go all the way, the season has not gone according to plan for the Citi Field faithful. But even amid turbulent times, the Mets players don’t seem to be particularly fazed.

The Mets’ final run in at the 2023 season seemed to have ended at the Trade Deadline. Dealing away two aces who were both potentially some of the league’s best pitching was a clear indication that the team had thrown in the towel. But that just means for the other players that the rest of the season is open for performances. Moments of individual brilliance that can create their own memory. Some players however, chose to enjoy their time off with another sport. More specifically, watching it.

The world of sport never sleeps. When one season winds down, another sport is always just ramping up. And while the MLB season now enters its final stretch, the tennis season is an ongoing spectacle. With the US Open Grand Slam beginning in early September, the players seem to be taking in the best that the sport has to offer.

Former tennis superstar Roger Federer, also made waves at the event when he had previously stated that he would have loved to stay in the city at the time of his playing career. Said Federer, “I used to spend three weeks here in a row and I always said, ‘I have to stay in the city throughout the US Open. Because if you don’t stay in the city, what’s the point of playing the US Open?’”

In an Instagram post, several Mets players were seen attending a game all tagging each other as a part of the viewing group. Star sluggers Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil were pictured with key members of their bullpen rotation including David Peterson, Tylor Megill and Drew Smith. Posing on the galleries as a part of the general audience, the players were just enjoying some time off.
