Home/NFL

It’s October, the most exciting part of an MLB season. As the best teams fight for a spot in the World Series, a historically strong franchise has been in decline. Culminating in one of the worst seasons in recent years, the New York Yankees are not playing in the postseason for the first time since 2016. In a season of disappointment, even the ace Nestor Cortes Jr. has given up on baseball.

Multiple injuries have afflicted the pitcher in 2023, hampering his season severely. In turn, it affected the already struggling Yankees, taking their defensive power down another notch. Cortes was not at his best even when healthy but is expected to return in 2024. In the meantime, however, he will take the NFL over MLB.

Nestor Cortes Jr. Joins Fans in Lament Over Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are trying to evolve. Missing running back Aaron Jones to injury, a first-year starting quarterback is handling the heat. On Monday night, the team lost 13-17 to the Las Vegas Raiders, disappointing fans further. Among them was the Yankees ace, Nestor Cortes Jr., who posted a cryptic tweet with just two words – “Pass interference?”

It could have referred to Jordan Love’s third pass interception of the night, which proved costly to the already losing Packers. Already at 13-17, Love launched a 35-yard pass intended for Christian Watson but underthrew it. Instead, Amik Robertson intercepted it, even though Watson begged an official for a pass interference call. It went unanswered, thereby sealing the fate of the losing Packers.

Cortes was apparently as frustrated as the rest of Green Bay fans, but the MLB world found it laughable. Since the Yankees are not part of the playoffs this year, ‘Nasty’ Nestor is apparently not watching any other team either. He would much prefer football over baseball, it seems, no longer concerned with MLB for the year. Bronx fans hope 2024 is better, at least.

After a disaster of a season, Yankees management is trying to make major changes in every part of the organization. While injuries cannot be predicted, it helps to have talented players to serve as replacements. In Nestor Cortes Jr.’s absence, Gerrit Cole held up the bullpen with a brilliant performance all season long.

But captain Aaron Judge has made a clear cry for help. Hal Steinbrenner has finally gotten serious, engaging in an internal statistics audit. Hopefully, Brian Cashman doesn’t hold back from signing new players like he did last offseason and at this year’s trade deadline.
