The Minnesota Twins are making history in 2023. Last offseason, it was all about Carlos Correa and his landing spot after the shortstop opted out of his contract. Ultimately, when several teams rejected him based on a failed physical, Correa came back to the North Star State. But this season, the team has proved its worth as a whole, that even an NFL star is impressed.

The Twins have not won a playoff game since 2002. It’s a long drought for any team or passionate fanbase to bear through. But this year’s roster seems determined to beat the odds, making it to the Fall Classic by giving it all they have. The recent sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays is proof of their talent, witnessing which was the Vikings’ quarterback in the stands.

As the Twins sailed past the Blue Jays on Tuesday, ending their postseason dreams early, fans were cheering loudly in the crowds. Sitting in the bleachers, just any regular baseball lover, was Kirk Cousins, the Minnesota Vikings‘ star QB. Since it was just a simple baseball hat and goggles and nothing complicated, some figured out who he was. “I kept sunglasses on and a hat [and] tried to blend in [with the fans],” Cousins said afterward. “[But], you know, each inning I could tell that word was getting around in the section.” But in the meantime, it was a sweet moment between father and son.

“I was trying to teach my older son about the game,” the Vikings player said. “It was one of those [special] moments [where] I’m at a professional baseball game sitting next to my six-year-old son trying to teach him about the game like my dad did with me. It was a lot of fun.”

What a sweet moment for the Cousins’ family! Perhaps he was the Twins’ good luck charm at their last game and will now get to watch more October baseball in the city. Upcoming next will certainly be an exciting match-up, against the reigning World Series champs, the Houston Astros.

This year, the Twin Cities are a force to be reckoned with. Out of six meetings in 2023, Minnesota won four against Houston. They may have won the battle in 2022 but the Twins will surely put up fierce competition. Most importantly, the Astros know it too.

“They’ve got good pitching, they’ve got good defense, they’ve got a number of left-handed hitters, which poses a problem. They’ve got a good manager. I mean, they’re a good team,” manager Dusty Baker told MLB.com. While GM Dana Brown also had praise to offer, he sounded a fair warning. “They didn’t really see the real Astros.”
