Growing up in New Jersey, Mike Trout was a die-hard fan of Philadelphia’s sports teams. Be it the Phillies or the Eagles, he supported them all. But by 2011, the young slugger had joined the Los Angeles Angels in the majors. A team historically on the losing end, fans had hoped Trout would change their fortunes. Twelve years later, the Halos haven’t made the playoffs more than once. And Trout’s unending loyalty may finally be at its wit’s end.

The 11x All-Star has always insisted on standing by his team, just like his hero, Derek Jeter, did with the New York Yankees. The only difference is Jeter won five World Series championships, and the Angels can’t even make it to the postseason. Is it finally time for the 3x AL MVP to return to Philly? At least his NFL allegiance hasn’t shifted.

The Los Angeles Rams are an NFL powerhouse but childhood loves rarely leave us. Despite being a resident of LA for more than a decade, the Philadelphia Eagles are who Mike Trout supports. In February 2023, baseball fans brutally mocked the Angels player on social media when he made an appearance at an Eagles playoff game. He had finally made it to the postseason, it seemed. Nevertheless, his dedication remains as strong as ever.

As the $4.9 billion NFL team gears up for another season, fans know Trout will be there to support them. “Fly Eagles fly,” he wrote in a recent Instagram story, rooting for the team. In a season where fans have fervently hoped that the 11x All-Star would move to a different team, this post comes at just the right time.

The Angels have announced that should Mike Trout choose it, they would be open to trading him to a different team. The slugger signed his 12-year, $426 million contract in 2019 and still has 7 years and more than $248 million left. Trout had announced his intentions to have a talk with the team come offseason but the Angels have moved up the timetable.

It’s not as if the club cannot fund MLB’s highest-paid player. But while the entire league recognizes his abilities, it may be time for another team to pay his cheques, one where each season doesn’t end in disappointment. But the question many are asking has nothing to do with what team Trout will come back with.

Will Trout Ever Return to Baseball?

Ever since the center fielder suffered a left hamate fracture, his return has been uncertain. The Angels tried to activate him for a game but not even 48 hours later, Trout was back on the IL. He’s out for the season and fans are wondering if he will even come back next year, with whatever team he chooses.

The last few years have not been kind to his injury-prone body, and the lack of success with the Angels has done no favors either. Instead, Trout has been focusing on his huge golf project with legend Tiger Woods, called Trout National – The Reserve.
