Derek Jeter is a rare player who has successfully transitioned to the analyst role. It’s a testament to the famously private Jeter’s professionalism that he has excelled in a role that requires a degree of openness. Perhaps this is why legendary announcer Bob Costas was all praises for Captain Clutch recently.
The name Bob Costas rings a bell in baseball fans’ minds. A part of many historical moments, getting praised by Costas is a big feather in Jeter’s cap. At the same time, Costas had some advice for NFL legend Tom Brady about his analysis work.

It took some time but Derek Jeter eventually found himself at home in an analyst’s role. Forming a good partnership with David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez, Captain Clutch has shown tremendous growth as an analyst. Bob Costas shared this sentiment in an interview with Steve Serby of the New York Post. “I would say watch Derek Jeter this past postseason. Here’s a guy who was famously circumspect about everything, but was willing in his own way to step out and be more critical than we’ve ever seen him be.”
“Because if you’re not willing to be critical, which is not to be harsh or take potshots, but if you’re not willing to be forthright, then you’re not serving the viewers.” Costa’s continued about Jeter.
This came after Costa was asked about Tom Brady’s impending entry into Fox Sports next year. To this, Costa replied that while he wasn’t asked about it, he’d prefer Brady to stay in the studio instead of announcing the games live. When asked why, Costa reasoned “The glamor factor, the on-camera factor… The level of preparation to work a game and what it takes to get the hang of it, (Brady) is just an easier fit in the studio.”
