There is a language that sports speak. They have their own iconography and jargon. Two fans of a sport will often come together over their love for a team or even judge each other for liking a rival. But with football and baseball being America’s two greatest sports, you would not be wrong to see that the two sports have some overlap too. In one case maybe more than the others.

The NFL and MLB are intertwined in a way few sports will be able to. While competing with each other for airwaves, the two are also linked with every aspect of a America’s media consumption. For some players too this overlap presents an opportunity like no other. As social media has grown, so has the sports’ following leading to an inevitable meet between the two. For NFL sensation Patrick Mahomes, this has meant a windfall gain.

In an interesting take on picking aspects from one sport and applying it to another, a social media post saw the NFL’s last 162 regular season games projected as MLB standing in the format most people are only used to seeing for the ballpark. While the teams’ super bowl records stand testament to their playing abilities, with a shorter season, the record also reflects the history of the NFL in a way few others would be able to.

For Patrick Mahomes, the current Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback, this only meant that the franchises’ record reflected the absolute dominance that they have been able to assert in the years past. Topping the AFC West with a 0.716 record through the years past, The Chiefs have been one of the most dominant forces in the NFL and it showed.

For Mahomes, however, this was an almost awkward statistic. Having invested in the MLB’s Kansas City Royals, they have failed to live upto the standard that his Chiefs have in the recent years past.

Patrick Mahomes’ Investment in the Kansas City Royals

The star quarterback reportedly invested $10 million for a 1% stake in the franchise and despite a lower level of investment, the team’s record has not done too much to reinforce his faith. Despite being a historic franchise in MLB, the Royals have had a dismal post-season record to show for it.

Failing to make it out of the AL Central even in the 2023 season, the franchise only has 2 World Series appearances to show for its record since 1986. Despite their most recent win coming in 2015, the franchise has since slumped back into a listless show failing to excite the fans.

Mahomes’ Chiefs on the other hand have been nothing but a success story in the NFL since his arrival. Winning the Superbowl in 2020 as well as in 2023, they have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

Whether Mahomes’ faith pays off or not remains to be seen. But one thing is certain. Mahomes is used to winning and he’s not going to let this go on for too long.
